Over two-dozen U.S. regions are being considered to receive funding appropriated for High-Speed Rail. Florida is considered a top contender. You can help us WIN by learning, sharing and then staying tuned to take action when the time is right.

*Our project is the most “shovel-ready” and would create new jobs faster and cost less than any other project in the nation.

*The Tampa-Orlando-Miami High-Speed rail project will create up to 50,000 new jobs.

*A Tampa-Miami High Speed rail corridor would serve about 67% of all Floridians, Add Jacksonvile for three-fourths of the population.

*According to the FL Dept. of Transportation, I-4 averages 10 accidents a day.

*The Tampa-Orlando system will reduce approximately 94,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually. 130,000 tons with a state-wide line.

@Mark: Your statement "Or even FLO-RITA, tapping into the Latino culture" is stereotype. I have friends that are latino and they don't say Florida like that. One to the topic. Amtrak has been running HSR service for a fews now up in the Northeast Corridor, from D.C. to MA.. I say get Amtrak involved so that Florida can have this service as well. One time the voters appoved it then former Gov. Bush put the proposal back on the voters while rewording to make sure that it would not be approved.

Hello folk's, I believe if you want the support of the masses in spirit and with finances you need to give the train a persona or a (Face) they can adopt. Example - Use a feminine name like "FLO" -short for FLORIDA, indicates effortless movement. Or even FLO-RITA, tapping into the Latino culture. Her logo? Lips & eyes . People should want to ride her and take a piece of her home. T-shirts, cups etc. treat it as a amusement ride not just a fast bus! "TAKE A RIDE WITH FLO"

This is a long-overdue project that will bring major economic development benefits to the entire region. It will lower our carbon footprint, reduce our dependence on foreign oil and encourage urban redevelopment. We support it editorially and philosphically.

If high speed rail is to become a reality, Secretary of Transportation LaHood stated quite succinctly on October 5th that SunRail also needs to become a reality. The good news..... I think the Senate is starting to realize that this is more than just a central Florida project. It is transportation for the entire state... and for the 21st century.

It is time for Floridians to have a way to enjoy all that our cities provide with out ecological damage every day. This is a wonderful idea!

this could become the WPA of the 21st century with the availability of manpower [high unemployment] and total sensibleness of a revitalized rail system [look at western Europe] this is the start of something that should be done to connect urban areas. The fact that it is a "no brainer" is why our legislators will more than likely not do it unless there is something in it for them at some inividual level.

Great idea but if I understand the DOT Secretary correctly, SunRail must be a part of any high speed rail project. Gaining Florida legislstive approval has been a huge challenge. How ill this happen?

We need high speed rail throughout Florida. In fact, we need it throughout the United States. We should consider the fastest trains possible.

Thank you for creating such a succinct video explaining what this important decision means to Floridians! Now is our time, this is the project, the project to Connect Us. Keep spreading the word.
